The Resin Cake is the latest creation from shaper and master-craftsman Axel Lorentz. After wading through the drool left by the warehouse boys, I was finally able to slip one of these little beauties under my arm. I want one, I need one. The Resin Cake has borrowed the pulled in, rounded pintail from the Sixtyniner, but has more width up front and a little more volume packed in. Without doubt the RC is aimed at the groveller market, but will work surprisingly well in larger, steeper waves thanks to the tail shape and the quad fin set-up. Running my hand over the board revealed a relatively deep double concave and a pronounced 'V' along the stringer in the back third. The Resin Cake has all the attributes of the modern day groveller, without the ridiculously obese volume and dims in some of it's peers. Paddle and catch waves super-early with the aid of the extra width under the chest, plant your back foot and feel the squirt out of the bottom turn compliments of the quad fins. Once up and riding the pulled in tail and bottom contours will accommodate rail-to-rail surfing and won't slip out should a steep section or even a little cover-up offer itself. The Resin Cake is all about fun, its about catching as many waves as you can and busting the tail out in anything from knee high summer slop to head high walls. It doesn't matter if you're just ditching your foamy, a seasoned ripper, or an experienced older guy looking for a little help, the Resin Cake will serve you all. Don't forget if you can not find the right RC to suit your style we have it in our PUKAS Customiser!! Check out our review of the Pukas Original Sixtyniner Surfboard! Back to blog
