News Surfboards Introducing Siren Surfboards Back to blog Here at Boardshop we are so excited to introduce you to Siren Surfboards. A range of bespoke surfboards, designed specifically with the female surfer in mind that will be stocked exclusively by Boardshop! It’s no secret that surfing has historically been quite male dominated and because of this, many boards are typically shaped with the male surfer in mind and whilst we all come in different shapes and sizes, women do tend to have smaller frames than their male counterparts. The tides are changing though, and thanks to the work of Women & Waves, Surf Sistas and other women’s surfing groups, surfing is slowly become a much more inclusive sport with women all over the world taking to the sea. We are so stoked to be seeing more and more girls and women out in the line-up and absolutely ripping! With female surfing on the rise, we have been getting more and more enquiries from female surfers looking for their perfect board. Traditional longboards for example are typically very high volume with big chunky rails. One of our customers found she was feeling frustrated and felt like the longboard she was surfing was holding her back. Determined to stick to a longboard and not wanting to go for a shorter board, this meant changing the other dimensions. After speaking to Ian and making the most of the years of knowledge he has, he advised sizing down to an 8ft 6 and going for custom dimensions. In the end, after speaking to UK shaper to find out what would work best, she ended up going for a board with custom dimensions significantly smaller than any of the other longboards she had ridden previously. The result was a beautiful custom board which she clicked with the first time she took it out! It is so much lighter, easier to carry, paddle and manoeuvre than her previous boards that she wished she had gone for a board with these dimensions years ago. This just goes to show that going for the highest volume, biggest board isn’t always the way to go! Because we understand how important it is to find the right board that works for you, and how much this can improve your surfing, we are so stoked that Siren Surfboards are working to make surfing more accessible and inclusive by offering surfboards designed for the smaller, more lightweight surfer. The Siren Surfboards shapes, dimensions, designs, and colourways have all been carefully chosen specifically to appeal to the female surfer. Inspired by a love of the ocean, the Siren Surfboards logo and each board model has been inspired by Sirens and Mermaids from Folklore and Mythology. Whilst these boards have been designed by a woman, with other female surfers in mind, these boards would also be perfect for guys... these beautifully designed boards are available for anyone who wants to surf them! If the stock dimensions aren’t quite right for you, you can always order a custom in your desired dimensions. The guys here have already started eyeing up these beautiful pastel boards! Siren Surfboards currently have 3 flagship models available in 4 colourways, all exclusive to Boardshop. Sailor’s Ruin – Mid Fish Quad Sailor’s Ruin is a mid-length fish inspired by old school surfing and the classic long fish shapes of the 70’s. Siren Surfboards have taken inspiration from both retro old school shapes and more modern outlines to create a long fish that is so much fun to surf whilst being easier to control for smaller, more lightweight surfers. By keeping the length in the board, this makes it easier to paddle and get into waves (essential for upping your wave count!). Trimming out some of the volume though is what makes this board so much easier to manage and control than your average off the shelf mid-fish. This shape has remained popular for so many years as it is super versatile. Working in a variety of conditions, Sailor’s Ruin is designed to glide, and just oozes fun! This long fish can act as a step-down, perfect for the smaller or more crowded days or it can also be used as a step up for the bigger, better days when it can be a bit harder to battle out through the surf on a longboard or higher volume board. There is no doubt that you will be gliding down the line with a huge smile on your face whilst surfing this beautiful board! Forget Her Not – Mid Length 2 + 1 The Forget Her Not is a mid-length surfboard, inspired by classic outlines, is an essential addition to any quiver and a must have if you are looking to up your wave count. This sleek board is as pleasing to surf as it looks. Carefully designed, with no compromise on performance, the Forget Her Not paddles as well as it performs in the surf and glides effortlessly through the waves. By opting to keep the length for optimal paddle speed and ease of paddling but reducing the volume in the top 5th of the board, Siren have made created board that is much easier to duck dive than other mid lengths on the market. This is something we hear a lot of lighter surfers struggling with as duck diving can be difficult to near impossible when you are on a board that is over volumed for you. The stunning Forget Her Not is a Mid-Length with so much to offer, lighting up those average days, boosting your wave count when its crowded and still offering heaps of fun on those bigger days when the waves have some size. If you're looking for an effortless surfboard that catches everything you paddle for, yet you can still surf from rail to rail, this stunner of a surfboard will be perfect for you. Sea Maiden – Longboard 2 + 1 Lastly, we have the Sea Maiden, a classic silhouette, just slightly narrower than your traditional log. This longboard is easier to carry, paddle and manoeuvre, especially for those who are more petite. The Sea Maiden is a board that catches waves easily and is easy to surf in a variety of conditions from knee-high to overhead. With trimmed down rails and less volume that your chunky traditional log, this board is easier to paddle, control and turtle roll making the whole surfing experience easier and a lot more enjoyable for the smaller surfer. This versatile longboard has a nice wide nose for stability and lift when wandering towards the nose, perfect if you want to hang ten whilst the pulled in tail gives the board some sensitivity and easy speed control allowing it to be surfed off the tail as well. Thanks to the more pulled in tail, the more seasoned longboarder can surf this off the tail set up as a single fin and choose to take some more aggressive lines in larger waves. This Longboard is the perfect all-rounder longboard and a must have for any surfer whether a beginner longboarder or a seasoned logger. Colourways We love the minimalist, retro-inspired branding on these boards, particularly the retro logos running down the central stringers and the simple yet beautiful pastel colourways. Siren Surfboards are available in 4 colourways, exclusive to this brand: Seashell, Sand Dune, Mist and Periwinkle. Given the huge rise in the number of women surfing over the last few years, there has never been a more perfect time for a surfboard brand designed specifically with the female surfer in mind to emerge. We are confident that these beautifully designed boards will only help to make surfing more inclusive and get even more girls and women on their perfect board out in the line-up sharing the stoke.
