Surfboards The Slater Designs Omni Surfboard...The Firewire Evo’s Older and Wiser Brother? Back to blog The Slater Designs Omni surfboard has been a big hit so far and after the initial drooling, we’ve had enough feedback and surfs on it to get a really decent idea of the optimum conditions to make it fly! A good customer of ours who travels a lot (based in Mallorca), recently sent us a few pictures and a brief description of how the Omni worked on a recent Maldives trip. Great photos either taken by the boat/resort or possibly a long suffering surf widow, show the Omni in full flow in mid range and also decent overhead waves. The surfer in question is on a 5’ 11” Omni at 37.6 litres, also surfs a 5’ 9” Evo at 38.1 litres and a custom Lost Stretch RV 6’ 1”. He’s a relatively big guy, but he can surf! We now view the Omni as a kind of Evo step up. It needs a relatively lined up wave with a bit of push but the deep joy of the Omni compared to the Evo is that the pulled in tail allows tight turns and so in turns allows you to sit in the power zone of the wave. The Evo’s wider tail and its propensity to zoom ahead with its awesome speed makes it a little trickier to stay right where you want it to (it’s still possible, just harder work than on the Omni) the Omni is a dream in this scenario and really ‘fits’ into the wave. If you’re heading off on a trip to the land of punchy beach breaks, good reef set ups or you just need a board for those good days at home... then an Omni is your go to travel companion. The LFT or Linear Flex Technology in the Omni is an eco friendly construction process that results in a durable board with a unique flex pattern. LFT has a Composite Springer HD Suspension System that runs from nose to tail and is overlaid with a top sheet too. It sits lower in the board than on a traditional PU board so the likelihood of sinking either side of the wooden stringer is reduced. LFT produces a feel like a brand-new PU board, but with added durability and this feel will last for the lifespan of the board thanks to its epoxy credentials. Don’t forget if you want to get your hands on a brand new Omni there are various ways to do it without just handing over £600 odd in hard earned readies... trade in your old stick against a new Slater Designs board or grab one 0 % finance you can also visit our onsite showroom and stick an Omni under your arm to get a real feel for it. We have around 300 boards in stock at any one time so if you’re going to drop in please give us a bit of notice and we’ll do a bit of dusting first and may even run a hoover over the place. We also have a full range of tail pads, leashes and bags on site including a decent range of products all suited for the Omni. If you have any questions you have about surfboards or any other surfing related subject, just email [email protected] or give us a ring on 0044 (0) 1243 674250 we love talking surfing and surfboards, it’s our job and also our passion. On sizing your Omni, stick to your normal volume plus a litre (maybe) and stick with the size that works for that volume. Watch Our Review Back to blog
