Top 5 Surfboards Of The Year So Far Back to blog Top 5 Surfboards Of The Year So Far It's been a fun-filled year here at Boardshop.co.uk with loads of shiny new surfboards being sent out to you wave-hungry, pit-guzzling surf addicts. We thought we would share with you the top 5 surfboards of the year so far, chosen by you, dispatched by us. Firewire FST DominatorDimensions - 6ft 2 x 20.75 x 2.625Ability - Intermediate/Advanced Volume - 38 lts Conditions - Anything from knee to head high waves The Firewire Dominator surfboard is probably Firewire's most versatile board in their range. This board holds width and volume but the wide point has been moved back slightly to allow progressive top turns in the pocket like a traditional short board. Future Shapes Technology keeps the board light and along with the parabolic rail system will generate great speed through turns. The Dominator is a go anywhere, do anything board. If you are a one board quiver kind of surfer then this is the board for you. Shoot over flat spots in knee high mush or shred pumping Peniche when on your travels. With the ability to ride it as a thruster or a quad, you can change the dynamic and feel off the tail with so many fin choices and setups for all conditions and tastes. This board does it all..... Get ready to charge! Firewire Timbertek Baked Potato Dimensions - 5ft 5 x 21.75 x 2.5Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced Volume - 36 lts Conditions - Anything from knee to overhead waves The Baked Potato will put a smile on your face all day long. This board will devour weaker, slacker waves for breakfast, lunch and dinner! The Baked Potato may look a beast but has been cleverly refined with rail volume being removed to allow great rail to rail surfing. The quad set up has also been moved further back and closer to the rail to help create drive when wanting to power round close out of flat sections. You may only buy this Firewire surfboard initially for the small days but trust us, it's addictive and with its ability to hold bigger surf, you could find yourself using it more than you bargained for! Firewire FST Spitfire Dimensions - 5ft 10 x 20.25 x 2.5Ability - Intermediate/Advanced Volume - 33.5 lts Conditions - Anything from knee to overhead high waves Imagine the Spitfire as a more refined and progressive Dominator. This board will still maximises easy paddling and wave count but with the added benefit of being able to handle and excel in overhead waves. This board holds volume under the chest with a low rocker for early wave entry but when up and riding you will produce turns with bite due to the thinned out tail allowing you to attack the wave. This is a great board for the surfer who wants a performance board that can be used in a variety of conditions. Equally at home in most UK breaks as well as those sneaky European road trips we all love to take. Firewire FST Unibrow Dimensions - 5ft 10 x 19.5 x 2.5Ability - Intermediate/Advanced Volume - 30.2 lts Conditions - Anything from waist high to overhead waves The F irewire Unibrow is new to the Firewire range for 2013. This is most definitely a more progressive shortboard. Dan Mann designed this shape to replicate his own traditional shortboard but just slightly shorter and wider (this is so that the board will fit nicely in the pocket). This board still holds a nice amount of width but keeps the nose narrow to allow aggressive manoeuvres on the most critical part of the wave. The single to double concave coupled with a dropped rail profile creates a performance board that many intermediate to advanced surfers will find attractive. If you want a board that prioritises performance but still has some slight width and volume to maintain and maximise paddling and planing speed then this is the board for you. Firewire FST Lost Mini Driver Dimensions - 5ft 10 x 19.25 x 2.375Ability - Intermediate/Advanced Volume - 27.8 lts Conditions - Anything from knee to overhead high waves This Firewire Mini Driver board is most definitely a barrel buster! This board excels in hollow surf with late drops and takeoffs being its forte. With it's low nose rocker and forward place outline, the Mini Driver creates loads of drive whilst the nicely elliptical tail (whilst keeping some width) can feel nice and loose whilst inside the barrel. Seriously try one of these boards if you love to surf waves that gets your heart rate pumping. Ride it as a thruster or a quad and create some memorable moments in the blue stuff! Back to blog
