Mick Fanning Softboards are a leading brand in the world of foam and soft top surfboards. The MF softboard brand is now well established and here at Boardshop we thought we better see if the hype was true, we actually went and bought a couple (yes paid actual money!) and surfed them,
they are really good fun to surf and do have a genuine point of difference from the more general softboard brands out there. The shapes are good and the construction is solid as a rock. There are a lots of different models each with their own specific benefits so there’s a shape for everyone. Designed by Mick Fanning himself these boards are designed to maximise performance whilst still retaining all the real benefits of a foamie. The key factor in making a foamie good to surf is in its construction, preventing excess flex which kills speed is key. Fanning seems to have nailed this, if you delve deeper into the construction of the MF foamies you’ll see the attention to detail is there, Hydro Carbon Spine, EPS Core, E-Cloth/Epoxy Internal Shell and a Soft Exterior Shell.
The choice of models in the range is extensive, familiar models like the Little Marley, Catfish and Beastie have been supplemented with a DHD colab and some other new additions. The boards range in size from under 5’0 to over 8’ 0 so there’s a foamie there for every type of surfer and wave. Mick Fanning himself needs no introduction, multiple surfing world championships, savvy businessman and Rip Curls figurehead for many years, he carries credibility in all that he does and his range of softboards certainly maintain keep those high standards. He was 36 when he retired.
Mick Fanning aims to be market leader in the high-performance softboards niche, he declares his boards have “More performance than any other softboard on the market.” So far so good, if you want a foamie for busy days or when its smaller you could do a lot worse than snap up a MF softboard.
