Description

The Channel Islands TPH Mid has been inspired by the beautiful clean lines and extended rail-lines of traditional 'eggs' and single fins, the addition of the TPH bottom contours really brings this board to life. The board itself is really flat with just enough tail and nose lift to keep it from bogging, the rails are pulled down to give a responsive sporty feel. The TPH is a spine running down the length of the board with scoops either side that run out to but not all the way to the rail, have a look at our video review to see more clearly. The TPH deisgn generates instant lift which in turns gives you speed that you won't have felt in a mid before. The TPH design also allows the board to shift from rail to rail more easily giving you a really lively surf.

Brilliant
I picked up a 7’2, it flies! Fast and full of glide. Tons of hold off the bottom turn. This will be my board of choice for most conditions. If you are an average surfer I reckon this board can make you feel like a great surfer.

Super fun
This is based on my first session, so not a nailed-on, two-years-later review. But, what a great little board! It feels much smaller than its actual 6'11"/45L: I wouldn't have been surprised after riding it to be told it was 6'6"/39L.

I rode the TPH yesterday at Woolacombe, pushing up to high tide, in head-high/slightly overhead surf. The waves were a little fat until they found the bottom, so needed late takeoffs. The board paddled easily, was simple to duckdive, smooth on takeoff and is surprisingly manoeuvrable for a 6'11". I thought it was just all-round super, super fun.

I hesitated between a 6'9" and the 6'11", and I'm glad I went longer: I don't think the shorter board could be more zippy, but it might not paddle quite as well. (For reference, I weigh 78 kg and surf OK: not eye-catchingly good or bad. At least, I hope not.)

I think a bit of fin experimentation is going to be interesting on the TPH. I rode an 8" L-flex, and that felt good. I also have an 8" Stage 6 and the CI fin lined up to try. (The Stage 6 is going to be either a stroke of genius or a complete disaster, just like it always is).

This board feels like a bigger one would suit a fairly inexperienced surfer – someone who's been surfing for a year or so, maybe – while the 7'1" and under sizes are actually a lot more jazzy than longtime surfers might imagine.

Shaping accuracy is excellent and the construction quality seems good: the 6/4 + 6 glass job feels just the right weight under your arm.
