Description

Stoked is not the word, the Dark Arts x Daniel 'Tomo' Thomson Evo Remastered is here and any Evo will have to have one!

The original Evo in Firewire's various techs is one of the best boards of all time, still is in fact but Firewire are no longer making it so it's great news that this updated version is now available in this amazing construction. The Evo is the most versatile of Daniel Thomson’s Modern Planing Hull designs, shaped into accessible dimensions and fit for surfers from beginner to advanced. The Quad Inside Single Concave (QISC) bottom contours provide lift and acceleration in a variety of conditions, though it excels in the weaker end of the wave range. The parallel outline has excellent stability for both paddling and surfing and provides fantastic drive through turns. The Evo continues to maintain its position as one of the most easy to surf performance shapes on Earth.

Ride the Evo as short as you can to get the most out of it, it has a 5 fin set up but for 90% of people a thruster set up works best but its does get surfed as a quad and also a twin with trailer.

Anyone who has ever called or emailed us about the Evo knows that we rate it in the top 3 boards of all time, it was and is a total game changer for so many people and in this new Dark Arts build its even better.

Dark Arts boards are all made in the USA, not farmed out to secondary factories anywhere else. By leveraging the lightweight compound of carbon fibre, Dark Arts surfboards promote a light-weight design that unites speed and agility with improved durability. Carbon Fibre is fast reacting and creates spring, unlike traditional fibre-glass cloth. The result of this natural rebound is speed and plenty of it! These DA boards are all hand crafted, then vacuum bagged, layered with carbon fibre cloth over a 2lb EPS stringer-less foam, this is all done for optimum flex, weight and durability. Dark Arts continues to redefine the limits for how surfboards are shaped and constructed.

Boardshop is stoked to be a key partner for Dark Arts and Tomo surfboards across Europe and beyond, we've been with them since the very start. Dark Arts surfboards are more durable than other surfboard manufacturing processes, and for 90% of surfers they will improve your surfing. We love the match up of two great surfing brains, Justin at DA and of course Tomo, the results are there for all to see.

The team here have surfed pretty much every board we stock at some time or another and we speak to surfers from all over the world and get their feedback on how the boards perform in all sorts of conditions so we're well placed to talk about all aspects of these surfboards.

We're happy to consider trading in your old board against a new one, and don't forget we offer interest free finance on all new premium surfboards so If you have any questions about this we'd be delighted to answer them and advise on any potential board choices or enquiries you might have, just drop us an email to [email protected] or call us on 0044 (0) 1243 674250.

Made in Dark Arts Construction

The classic Dark Arts technology. A pure carbon layup focused on providing the highest level of performance through an ultra-responsive and durable construction. This design perpetuates that first-surf feel for years due to a full coverage resilient 3k carbon fiber layer. An additional 4oz fiberglass cloth sits beneath the carbon layer on the top side of the deck for added strength against pressure dents.

Just go and buy one.
Took this out for my first surf a few days ago. Oh my speed! It's like a missile through the water. I've got a few seasides and thought that was a quick board. This is next level. Second wave my brother saw and said he thought it might have been the best turns he's seen me do. The speed on tap makes manoeuvres seems easier.

On the take off its got good stability. If you make a mistake as long as you can stumble to your feet the speed available means you can beat the section.

I'm 5'10 and 82kg. The 5'8 is perfect for me, glad I heeded Roger's advice in the review videos and went short. For reference my go to Seaside is 5'9. I'm not a shredder and it suits me perfect. The only thing I'd disagree is on the fin choice. I've only ridden quads for the past 15 years+. This board is insane with a quad set. I'm running a slightly weird set up but it works well. Mick Fanning twin + 1 Twins with machado seaside side bites, no trailer.

Treated myself to a Dark Arts Tomo for my Birthday
As a burnout in my fifties and refusing the thought of a subtle cruise on respectable Mal, I have splashed out on an overtly insane surfboard. It's black, carbon wrapped and weighs practically nothing. It doesn't look like anything from my 40+ year old quiver of boards and I am wondering if this is could be one of those mid life crisis sort of things! You surf it a few inches shorter than your regular board, but due to the shape of it you can still pack the foam in making it a gift to paddle. It's wide and really stable on the take off, you've got to give a bit of 'giddy up' on the pump and when you get it right it will shows you what them channels on the bottom are all about. It planes well, climbs foam and in most cases will get you to the next section. Putting it in the bag for Portugal next month, so hopefully get it into something meaty. Riding some Endorfin Velox big boy fins as recommended by the guys at the shop. On that note: The Boardshop is by far one of best surf shops I have come across, these guys are cool, know exactly what they are talking about and are up for a bit of craic! 10/10.

I love this board…
I had an Evo some years ago and in a moment of utter madness, sold it. It’s not until I didn’t have the board, I realised how much I missed it, especially as I had some of my best surfs on the board….For many of the waves I get to surf, it’s the perfect board. It’s great in decent surf, but it will go really well in on shore weak swell, that most boards will struggle in. It’s an amazing board as it will fly in good surf and will work really well in poor surf. Loose, easy to turn and fast. I do find in very strong off shore the board can get stuck a bit on the take off, due to the shape of the nose, luckily I have bought some amazing mid lengths from Boardshop for these conditions. If you’re a UK surfer, an EVO is a great option for the majority of our waves. I wondered if the board would surf differently in this new construction. I feel it makes it a bit faster and its pretty much indestructible! As I said, I love this board.
