Description

Oh wow, the Dark Arts x Daniel 'Tomo' Thomson Vader 2.0 (or V2) looks mind blowingly good and rest assured it surfs pretty well too!

The original Vader in Firewire's LFT tech was good, like really good and this new updated version, the 2.0 elevates it to another level. It now features the Vee Quad Concave hull design (VQC). Tomo's drive to optimise the combo of the outline, bottom contour and nose entry curve is all designed to give you more; more speed, more turning power, more flow, basically more of everything!

Tomo believes this 'ultra high performance' design once again defies traditional logic and offers an incredibly intuitive ride quality, effortless rail to rail transitions and an almost supernatural acceleration through turns. The rectangular outline combined with the deep Vee bottom provide a balanced volume distribution under the chest, this means it paddles really well and catches waves like a much longer board would. The Vader 2.0 still maintains a fine rail profile for sensitive rail control. Tomo reckons the Vader 2.0 is "the Fastest surfboard design in Modern Surfing" and will level up the surfing of anyone who rides it.

Tomo says for good surfers looking for maximum performance size Vader V2 at 5-6 inches shorter than your height ( or equal to the tip of ones nose) and then go for the lowest volume you're comfortable level or minus 1 L from a traditional performance shape. Its a 5 fin set up, ride it as a quad.

Dark Arts boards are all made in the USA, not farmed out to secondary factories anywhere else. By leveraging the lightweight compound of carbon fibre, Dark Arts surfboards promote a light-weight design that unites speed and agility with improved durability. Carbon Fibre is fast reacting and creates spring, unlike traditional fibre-glass cloth. The result of this natural rebound is speed and plenty of it! These DA boards are all hand crafted, then vacuum bagged, layered with carbon fibre cloth over a 2lb EPS stringer-less foam, this is all done for optimum flex, weight and durability. Dark Arts continues to redefine the limits for how surfboards are shaped and constructed.

Boardshop is stoked to be a key partner for Dark Arts and Tomo surfboards across Europe and beyond, we've been with them since the very start. Dark Arts surfboards are more durable than other surfboard manufacturing processes, and for 90% of surfers they will improve your surfing. We love the match up of two great surfing brains, Justin at DA and of course Tomo, the results are there for all to see.

The team here have surfed pretty much every board we stock at some time or another and we speak to surfers from all over the world and get their feedback on how the boards perform in all sorts of conditions so we're well placed to talk about all aspects of these surfboards.

We're happy to consider trading in your old board against a new one, and don't forget we offer interest free finance on all new premium surfboards so If you have any questions about this we'd be delighted to answer them and advise on any potential board choices or enquiries you might have, just drop us an email to [email protected] or call us on 0044 (0) 1243 674250.

Made in Dark Arts Construction

The classic Dark Arts technology. A pure carbon layup focused on providing the highest level of performance through an ultra-responsive and durable construction. This design perpetuates that first-surf feel for years due to a full coverage resilient 3k carbon fiber layer. An additional 4oz fiberglass cloth sits beneath the carbon layer on the top side of the deck for added strength against pressure dents.

Great board in perfect tech
Got the darkarts 5‘7 Vader 33L (being an upper intermediate 6‘4/88kg surfer with a FW/Tomo/… quiver and many boards tried/sold).
Ordering it I knew the size was right, though 1-2L below my usual volume, as I used to surf a 5’8 Vader LFT some years back. I did really like it then, but it was a tad big (1-2 sizes), thus a tad stiff sometimes and generally a bit difficult in flatter and gutless waves.
This new Vader 2.0 is a peace of art. The built is exceptional in any aspect, the lines are incredible, this is next level stuff and a clear upgrade to its predessor. With the vee bottom the Vader 2.0 is thicker in the centerline, the rails are a bit finer/lower, and the tail is more refined. The weight is low, but not too much so. It looks wide.
Tested it 3 days in France, in small and in big conditions (2-3ft and 6-8ft well overhead), it is a winner. Paddles great, ducks good (at this perfect volume !), catches the big stuff easily and also the tiny stuff - gets off like a dream. On the wave it goes where you want it to go, precise, quick, feeling light like a feather, but connected to the water, more so than the old Vader with its single concave. In the turns it surfs surprisingly normal, with speed and control and good grip. I was not sure when I took it into the big surf, mid tide, semi steep, but it was functional just like any HPSB, controlling the speed well (again, at this perfect volume). For steep drops it require some adaptation I guess.
To resume: the board is an absolute winner, in any tech, but even more so in dark arts technology. If you want an unreally fast and easy board for 3-7ft waves, buy one. Size it low.
If that is not your shape - any other shape in the dark arts range will most likely blow minds too.
Aloha
