Gerry Lopez Midway surfboard 7ft 6 - Sea Stone

The Gerry Lopez Midway surfboard is a performance mid length which will fill a gap in many quivers. It has all the paddle power and early wave entry you’d expect from a board template like this, but it has performance too. The board has a fuller nose and low/mid entry rocker to ensure that it paddles well, but you don’t catch the nose rails on take offs in steeper waves. The rails are a little more paired down than you’d find on a cruisey mid length to give the board a livelier feel and more responsive surf.

The Gerry Lopez Midway has a lot in common with a heap of other mid lengths out there, the Phipps One Bad Egg, The CI Mid to name just two but what it does have is that classic Gerry Lopez template and feel, glide and flow but performance on tap when you want it. The pulled in round tail and straight-ish rails give it great hold in bigger punchier waves whilst the flatter fuller template means it’ll still go in smaller weaker waves. Realistic wave range for the Midway is thigh to a good few feet overhead.

So who is going to surf this board?? Any shortboarder seeing a drop in their wave count, any longboarder who wants a shorter board for a different kind of surfing, or anyone who realises that the World Tour is out of their grasp and that surfing is meant to be about having fun…remember that?? Basically anyone can surf this board and enjoy their surfing and end up with a smile on their face. It paddles incredibly well and gets you in early, no need to fear that line up crowded with SUPs, longboards, wave skis and over excited 10 year olds on 22 litre boards, the Midway will get you waves! The exceptional drive, speed and hold that characterises this board in bigger waves translates into flow and glide in more marginal conditions, its a really fun board to have in your quiver. The board is available in 7’ 0 and 7’ 6 and has a classic mid length outline, so pleasing on the eye!

The Midway’s construction is the excellent Fusion Poly build, a high density PU core, PE Resin, and 6/4oz E glass glassing. This set up gives an excellent feel, a responsive PU ride with the benefit of extra durability through the strength of E Glass, all round a great combo. The 2 + 1 fin set up gives that classic mix of glide and performance, a pair of side bites and a 6.5” to 7.5” fin depending on your weight is the perfect set up.

Gerry played a huge part in the shortboard revolution of the late 1960's and early 1970's, charging his home breaks in Hawaii and blazing the trail to the now legendary spots of G-Land, the islands off Sumatra and Bali. Still surfing in his 70's and looking fit as ever, Gerry is designing and shaping some truly unique boards which keeps his surfing journey alive and heading forwards. This collection of surfboards represents the quiver he travels with surfing the world's ultimate destinations.

Gerry's Surftech surfboards are built using Surftech's True Ride Fusion Poly technology, a traditional construction with a polyurethane core with polyester resin which is then glossed and polished. This construction produces a beautiful looking surfboard which surfs as well as it looks.
