Great Board!!!
Absolutely love this board. It’s a real do all board. Great paddling and can easily catch waves!

Took a while to "click", but worth the wait
This is a great board! At 6'8" its more of a big guys short board (Im only 80kg and 5'9 though, so for me its just about a mid). Its pretty pointy and narrow and got a lot of tail rocker, with hard, pulled in rails in the rear 3rd. All of which give it a huge amount of performance for a mid length. It still carries 40l volume, but doesnt paddle anywhere near as well as my 7'2" flowstick, which has 13l more volume and bigger in all dimensions (another excellent board), so of course it wouldnt. It took me a couple of months to get used to the change and I missed a lot of waves to start off. Front foot needs to go further forward than what you might think when you are up too. I love it now though and it has allowed me to progress.

I like the thick glassing on it as always dinging my boards and the variety with the fin set ups is awesome. The 2+1 adds a bit of drag with the large centre fin (you can get an adapter to fit a normal thruster centre if you want), but gives phenominal hold and turns on a 6 pence. In a quad setup you can really feel the difference in glide and able to catch knee to waist high waves if you take off right on the break. The board absolutely flies after a couple of pumps in either setup and as the name suggests is a really smooth ride. At the same time though, it is lively when you want it to be and can cut back in very tightly if you step back and easily handles a top to bottom style if you're after that, but not quite ready for a short board, or dont get in enough to maintain the fitness to paddle one. I've not tried twins, or single fin yet, so plenty of scope to change it up for a bit of variety, rather than buying another new board (which of course is inevitable eventually...). Matt was really helpful in helping me to choose a board. He listened to what I was looking for and gave me a few recommendations, this board being his top one for me and is exactly what I was after.

If you already have a bigger board, I would go on the smaller end with this one, but if this is your only decent board, then I would recommend going slightly bigger (whatever the limit is that you can duck dive). Id say its an intermediate - advanced board. Beginners would have a hard time on this one

The reason I have given 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the shipping. I bought on finance and so had to be delivered to my home address, rather than work. It was either loose a weekend day (for an extra fee), or take a day off work, so I opted for the latter. Its worth noting that the 30 day ride out deal doesnt apply to boards on finance too. For the board itself and the service from board shop, Id give 5 stars

Mid length mayhem
On deciding I needed a mid length board in my quiver & good advice from Matt , went for the smooth operator ,this is such a fun board to surf it goes in pretty much anything & the multi fin set up let’s you totally change how you want to surf it, large single it’s crusiey add 2 sides for bigger waves & as a quad is great, got the longest ride I’ve had at my local break on this sick board , the resin tint is cool & gives it a sexy look but not quite as good as sade in her day, it turns nice as well & generates speed easy, usual great advice & service from the boardshop.

One board to rule them all
Advised by the team to get this board, and I must say its a beast I have got a custom 7.10 got a signature for Lee on the bottom. I needed a board for all conditions and it delivers, high volume great rocker and pintail for pretty awesome turns. Easy paddle I am loving it...

good but like a bit shortboard in some ways
I bought this board only recently, so am not quite used to it yet. It was this or the new CI Mid, and I went the Lost Smooth Operator, mainly because of instant availability. All in all its a very easy board to ride. I have it set up as a quad. Maybe I need to try to ride it more in a mid length style, but as it feels to me like somewhat like a big shortboard, I tend to ride it that way rather than the gliding carver. It has a thick glass job which many will like for the durability, but that does make it relatively heavier. I live by the beach and surf everyday, so am always changing boards depending on the condition. If you are a weekend end warrier though and want a board that will catch waves fairly easily and is easy to ride with some performance, this is the board. If you are more of a hipster mid-length glider, then the nose of the smooth operator may be a bit pulled in for you.

Happy days

The Lost Smooth Operator Delivers!
Bought this mid-length beast at 7ft 2 just a couple of weeks ago and already had the pleasure to try it here in the Mediterranean, as we had a couple of days of good conditions (which doesn`t happen very often..), so was pretty stoked. Rode the board between chest to head high and on another day in weaker hip-high waves. What is amazing is the speed you can generate with the Smooth Operator and the ability to perform tight turns, something I didn`t expect to that degree. On quite a few of the waves I had the advantage of paddling in first due to the higher volume but also when positioning a bit more on the front of the board I could easily beat most short-boarders. The board feels absolutely great in the bigger sets, racing down the line and finishing with some turn. I kinda had the feeling that the others in the water stayed away from me because they knew I would be the first one on the wave.... I must say that I am on an intermediate level and still far away from a good/expert surfer, but felt I could match on some waves with the better surfers out there mainly due to the board. Something I didn`t experience with my shorter 2nd board in the past. So to sum it up, great board for the intermediates that need more paddle power, but also look for a board that offers good maneuverability AND smooth surfing. I use it with a 2+1 fin set-up as recommended by the boardshop guys. Great and very fast delivery from UK to Spain.
