Three years in the making, the Slater Designs FRK + in the awesome Ibolic construction has landed!

Slater's Ibolic FRK + model has been fine-tuned, not only by the greatest himself, but also by some other elite level surfers, such as Betty Lou, Brodi Sale, Jackson Dorian and others too. Working alongside long-term shaper and collaborator Dan Mann, the biggest change from the original FRK is how the FRK + now has a squash tail, which allows the board to be ridden a touch shorter. Small adjustments come with this, to the fins and placement in the single to double concave but these are subtle. Having the squash tail allows the FRK + to release without really jamming the tail and you can turn the board with consummate ease.

The FRK + is a classic outline and template that drives rail to rail rapidly, manoeuvres fantastically and provides a board that feels like it will go 100MPH but with all the control needed to harness that drive and speed.

Surfers from an intermediate level and above will find the FRK + an amazing board that will suit waves from 3ft and above. Ideal for a daily driver to give you performance in a board that can tackle a wide range of wave conditions. If you want an extra bit of paddle help, this is a model you can size up a touch, to allow for increased paddle speed and wave entry. Matt here is 72kgs and has been surfing the FRK + at 6ft 1 and is loving it testing the board as either a quad or thruster. The quad adds drive and speed to this model whereas the thruster adds the control and turning point to get more aggressive on the board with your turns. Our recommendation would be to grab a 5-fin set, Endorfins Slater KS1 Futures Tri/Quad Fins.

Ibolic construction is a leap forward in surfboard manufacturing with the best elements of LFT and Helium combined. This Patent Pending technology is built into the core blank construction to create preloaded structural flex together with structure strength and durability. The FRK+ has Fibre Reinforced I-Beam high density foam stringer down the centre with Parabolic Rail Springers from nose to tail. There are three independent points for flex control and break resistance. I-Beam ensures firmness underfoot and unparalleled strength. The two Parabolic Rail Springers enable even flex and give great recoil through your turns. I-BOLIC Technology is an engineering feat that builds performance into the core of the surfboard there are no external carbon layups or heavy laminations with this cracking tech. What this all means is that get a board that is stronger than a helium board and has the feel of an LFT with even faster recoil, this tech is really nicely weighted too- you'll surfer faster and harder all in the knowledge that the Ibolic tech is Firewire's toughest yet.

Boardshops customer service is second to none. Both advice on the right board as well as communication and logistics is 5 stars.

In terms of the board, I’ve rode in both the wave (expert turns) and north Devon (5ft) and it’s unreal. Rail to rail it’s the best board I’ve ridden, super agile, light, and for me will only improve my surfing. Slater describes it as his groveller, it really isn’t for us mere mortals. When the waves soften up it doesn’t work. For me in my quiver it’s sits at the top, underneath is my REVO with my EVO as the ‘groveller’.

Wow Absolutely lost for words with this board !! Received from Boardshop perfectly and luckily the waves were pumping the following day - Long left 5ft barrells at the local reef ! The board was amazing - super fast and buttery ! Paddles amazing / you can realy feel it loading up and the tech working !! Was also suprised at how light this board is !! I used the new Endorfins on it and again this finished the board off !! Might be my fave board ive ever ridden ! Thanks Boardshop x

Excellent board for most conditions
Super light, super strong and goes incredibly well. I purchased the next size/vol up compared to what I’d normally ride as the board is a bit thinner than recent ones I’ve been using. The FRK + goes surprisingly well in weak conditions and absolutely rips in slightly more punchy waves. A fine addition to my quiver!

Mind bogglingly good
I've been surfing a 5'11 FRK OG for a while which came in at 29.1L and the 5'10 FRK+ has the same width and volume. (I'm 80kg). I've only surfed it in the pool so far.

This board has similar hold and feel to the OG, but it is so responsive through the turns it is unreal, particularly rail to rail. It can feel a bit twitchy at times, but in a good way. It is not quite as forgiving as the round tail if your feet aren't quite right, and it does accentuate any errors. But I have had some of my best turns and barrels in the few sessions I've surfed. It retains the OGs ability to get you out of trouble if you are too deep/too late. I've found it paddles surprisingly well as well.

It does feel smaller than the OG in the same volume. I reckon you could take the extra volume and go same length as you would in the OG without losing much.
