Classic surfboard design meets modern technology. The Takayama Scorpion 2 Xtrasoft Soft Top surfboard is the perfect combination of a high wave count loads of fun and a bit of performance too.

While the original Scorpion was a great little board it did lack some "bottom end" performance in smaller and weaker waves due to the very narrow pintail. This Scorpion 2 is a more "rounded out" version with a much wider tail and a slightly narrower nose. Donald redesigned the original for his friends on the South Shore of Oahu (a bit like East Wittering!) who aren't blessed with the same power and punchy surf of the North Shore. Great little board for anywhere where weaker waves are the norm. The wider tail allows the rider to go shorter should they wish and the Quad + single offers the option for either single fin, 2+1 or quad fin setups!

This Softop version of one of Donald Takayama’s favourite boards is constructed with a thermal-formed EVA deck which offers great traction and is kinder on your knees and ribs when paddling. This construction is a great option for the beginner or improving surfer who wants to progress but is not quite ready for a hard deck board. Performance is not affected by the soft deck and the board surfs just as well as the Tuflite version. The Softop Custom Performance boards are number 1 for surf-school and rentals and have been a consumer favourite for more than 20 years. Essentially what you're getting is a high-end epoxy surfboard topped with the durable EVA deck which will also extend the lifespan of the board protecting it from dings to the nose, tail and rails.

Donald Takayama worked alongside Surftech/TufLite for some 20 years before he died in 2012. This close relationship was built on trust, respect and a commitment to deliver a quality product which remained faithful to Donald's original designs.

The board comes with 2 x Futures side bite plugs and a regular longboard centre fin box so you ride it as a single fin or 2+1 when you need a little more stability and control.  The Takayama Egg Soft Top is the perfect 'grab and go' board, you don't need to worry about waxing up, just head to the beach and paddle out.
