Description

The brand new Torq Mod Fun V+ surfboard carries more volume and has the stability and paddle ability of a much larger board but in a much more easy to handle and manoeuvrable package. This addition to the Torq range is going to suit every level of surfer, from the first timer looking to catch a heap of waves to the intermediate looking for a fun craft for the smaller days.

The V+ is available in both 7'4 and 7'8 lengths so riders right up to 130kg are catered for. The much higher volume than the original Mod Fun makes it super easy to catch waves while the rocker and bottom contours make this lively and agile underfoot with way more performance than you'd expect from a larger surfboard.

We're really excited about this new Torq model, It's going to make a great beginners board and will obviously be a great option for the larger and heavier surfer who still wants to ride a smaller board with a performance 3 fin setup. The Mod Fun V+ has a traditional three fin thruster set-up and comes with a set of Futures fins.

Torq Surfboards are constructed using the most up-to-date Epoxy Technology, using the latest EPS Epoxy Materials. The lightweight EPS Core is combined with Biaxial fibreglass cloth, Epoxy resin and Torq's unique Shield Skin. Constructed in the most advanced mould on the planet, creating the most perfect production every time.

This unique combination of advanced materials and high-tech construction produces a board that performs at the very highest level, offering lightweight shapes with a responsive flex (missing on some cheaper Epoxy boards) but also makes for a really durable and strong surfboard. Your new Torq mini mal will keep you stoked from your first wave to your last. Enjoy!

Boardshop is stoked to be a key partner and stockist for Torq Surfboards. We're happy to consider trading-in your old surfboard against a new one, so If you have any questions about this we'd be delighted to answer them and advise on any potential board choices or enquiries you might have, just drop us an email to [email protected] or call us on 0044 (0) 1243 674250.

Feels perfect
Feels like the right board for stepping up from my 8ft foamie. I went for the 8'2"—it paddles really well, though I haven't had the chance to fully test it out yet. I can't wait until the conditions are just right. Thank you, Boardshop!

Great board for progress or smaller waves
Firstly, the board looks sexy and cool, and you'll look sexy and cool on it*

Secondly, it has a load of volume which is great for 100kg humans such as myself who still want to get out and catch waves, even if the waves are on the smaller side during summer.

Thirdly, the service was excellent, board advice was professional and knowledgable, and delivery to Spain otherworldly - which is a rarity after the sunlit uplands of Brexit. 10/10 would recommend the board and boardshop.

Torq Mod Fun Package
This board is great, If you are on the larger side (like me) and moving on to a smaller board from a 9ft softie, the 8ft 2in has been Ideal, like most things it took a bit of getting used too at first, but eventually made it, after many a bail, defo money well spent, not only that, the sea green pinline board just looks uber cool, well I think so anyway. buy and enjoy

Excellent advice and service.
My wife and I were looking to progress from our foamies. We had emailed companies, watched YouTube etc and had differing advice. Members of the Boardshop team really understood our needs, regarding our aspirations, weight, height etc and type of surfing we will be doing. Through emails and calls the team put us on the right boards and which are fantastic and suit us perfectly. I would highly recommend Boardshop who focus on you, not the profit or image.

Awesome first board to transition to from a foamie
Having got into surfing early this summer at The Wave Bristol, I’d been progressing well on a 9ft foamie, going through the beginner, Waikiki, and intermediate sessions. However, I was getting to the stage where I knew the foamie, as easy as it was to catch waves, was just not going to let me progress loads once I was up on the wave.

Like pretty much everyone here who’s looking for their first board, I was slightly worried about whether I was making the jump too quickly onto a ‘proper’ board, and whether I should just keep having fun cruising on the free P&O ferry I was used to. After dropping Boardshop a call, I explained my scenario. I’m 6ft 7”, 95kg, closing in on 40 (i.e. not that fit anymore) and have a stack of experience in board sports - just not surfing. I was easily catching and riding the intermediate waves at The Wave, and was now wanting a board I could progress on but that still had enough volume and stability that wouldn’t send me backwards in my progression. The guys at Boardshop suggested the 7ft 8 Mod Fun V+, with the V+ giving me that extra volume for my weight and experience (or lack of), whilst the reduced length should help with my progression and the build of the Torq boards allow for easy(ier) repairs if I ding it compared to a full-on fibreglass board.

I took my new board for it’s first outing 2 weeks back. I wasn’t expecting miracles and knew the jump down in size would be something I’d need to get used to – the 9ft foamie was around 95l in volume compared to my new 64l board – a third difference. With the sessions being 1 hour long with around 14 perfect waves to catch, I got up maybe once or twice well, and then spent the next hour either getting ejected off the board as I went to stand up, or blowing myself out paddling and the missing the wave. It certainly wasn’t the killer first session I’d hoped for, but the thing I came to realise was that it wasn’t the board messing things up - it was me. The old 9ft foamie I’d progressed on had allowed me to get away with some sloppy stand-ups, and it paddled so easy that again you get away with being a bit out of position, or having your feet a bit out of place. I booked another session for the next week determined to sort myself out!

I’ve now just come back from that session yesterday at The Wave and how things changed. I’d made sure this week to read up on my body positioning, paddling and re-capping the proper backfoot get-up technique the coaches had taught me, and spent a good 10-15 on land doing some stand-ups in the practice area. With a new mindsight, I literally caught every wave of the session, and the board ripped so well on the face. Although only a metre or so in height, I was able to lock the board into the wave and then start pumping it up and down the face generating some speed and even turning it a bit from edge to edge – it was so much fun. The thing that really came to mind is that the switch up from a foamie to a board like this is that you just need to keep your technique dialled – if you’re out of position, jump up too tall or don’t paddle it properly, you’ll get binned. Once I was further up the board, paddling stronger and then taking my time to stand up and keep low, the board just became so much more obedient, and I started getting so much out of it.

I’m totally amped now to keep surfing and so glad I made the jump onto this board. I’d highly recommend it anyone at a similar stage in their surfing life as me. The package deal too is ace – the bag is really good quality (an inner zip for wax would be great though), and to get the 3 fins, leash and a block of wax within the price is great value. The only minor negative (and I mean minor) is that it would have been good to also get the package with a block of base wax (or tropical) that you can use for the first coat before putting on the cool wax. I know some people argue for/against this method, but too me I personally think it makes sense and so I needed to buy another block landing me with a load of P&P on a super cheap item. If I’d have just know this before, it would have been good to order, or be included in the package. No big stress though – just something to keep in mind if you’re like me and not clued up on waxing your first board – grab a tropical or base block when you order.

Right, that was a massive review but in short, banging board, get used to it and it’ll give you stacks of fun. I’m hoping to progress on it for some time but when I switch up, it’ll make a good longer setup for smaller waves in the future so an all-round good investment.

Beautiful board with lots of volume
Bought this 7.4'' Torq board online, with leash, fins, bag and wax. The board is beautiful, light but has good volume. I used it only once for now, but was happy with the buoyancy and the size overall. I am 5.8'' tall for roughly 70kg, improver to intermediate level surfer, and I wanted something that is fairly easy to paddle and catch waves, but not too long. Seems that this board works for me.

Good board
Bought this as my first hard board from a softie as a beginner. It's a bit lighter than expected but it catches waves real easy and is more easy to move in the water than expected. It glides well and had been nice to use. Definitely a great first board.

Such a beauty!! Great service
This is my first board, and it feels incredible. Not the best conditions around here in Portugal at the moment, but I know I’ll keep improving with this beauty. Roger and Ian made my customer exp really good, and the delivery was top notch. Despite the delivery fee (this is DHL, not Boardshop), I’ll probably order again once I feel ready to move towards a fish (in 2-3 years lol)
