Description

Another slice of genius from the man who bought us all the Evo, arguably the best board of all time...introducing the Revo from Firewire and the main man Tomo. Throw in a ground breaking new construction from the masters of tech at Firewire and you've got a board that is going to be a massive hit. Lets talk about the board first and the tech a little later.

The Revo features Vee Quad Concave (VQC) as we know from the Evo this is the cutting edge in performance hull design. VQC combines the exceptional manoeuvrability and rail-to-rail transitions of a vee hull with the lift and response of quad concave to provide the most unique surfing experience, this is where the speed comes from, is there a faster board out there? The board paddles well for easy wave catching and you'll love the speedy transitions. The REVO has a refined outline curve and a higher rocker than the Evo allowing it to perform more radical turns in the pocket of the wave. The deep central spine of the vee provides plenty of directional control. The design can still be ridden as a thruster, though it is recommended to use a smaller rear fin or a 2+1 setup. Some people call the Revo and performance Evo and that pretty much sums it up, all the good points of the Evo with added performance in bigger punchier waves where the Evo loses its edge. The influence of Slater is plain to see here. He worked on the Sci-Fi 2.0 and FRK in this construction, standard shortboards to start with but has produced an essential addition to any quiver in the Revo.

Ibolic construction is a leap forward in surfboard manufacturing with the best elements of LFT and Helium combined. This Patent Pending technology is built into the core blank construction to create preloaded structural flex together with structure strength and durability. The Revo has Fibre Reinforced I-Beam high density foam stringer down the centre with Parabolic Rail Springers from nose to tail. There are three independent points for flex control and break resistance. I-Beam ensures firmness underfoot and unparalleled strength. The two Parabolic Rail Springers enable even flex and give great recoil through your turns. I-BOLIC Technology is an engineering feat that builds performance into the core of the surfboard there are no external carbon layups or heavy laminations with this cracking tech. What this all means is that get a board that is stronger than a helium board and has the feel of an LFT with even faster recoil, this tech is really nicely weighted too, you'll surfer faster and harder all in the knowledge that the Ibolic tech is Firewire's toughest yet.

Boardshop is stoked to be a key partner for Firewire surfboards across Europe and beyond, we've been with them since the very start. Firewire surfboards are more durable than other surfboard manufacturing processes, and for 90% of surfers they will improve your surfing. Firewire is pushing the limits of applying new technology and innovation to surfboard design and always has an eye on the environmental impact of what they do, they truly are different to the other board companies out there. Firewire have come a long way since the early boards and the range of shapes and tech just gets better and better. A big chunk of the boards in the range are perfectly suited to the waves that 90% of us surf on a regular basis so if you haven't already give them a try. The staff here have surfed pretty much every board in the Firewire range at some time or another and we speak to surfers from all over the world and get their feedback on how the boards perform in all sorts of conditions so we're well placed to talk about all aspects of Firewire surfboards.

We're happy to consider trading in your old board against a new Firewire, so If you have any questions about this we'd be delighted to answer them and advise on any potential board choices or enquiries you might have, just drop us an email to [email protected] or call us on 0044 (0) 1243 674250.

Don't be afraid to size up
After doing some research and speaking to the guys at boardshop I decided to stick with my suggested volume and not try to size down which I know is a trend with some other models by this shaper. I am so glad I didn't. Although 3 inches thick in the middle the board does not feel like a 3 inch thick board and lifeless. The quad concave vee and really tapered rails allow the board to sit in the water really nicely. All these tomo boards have a certain feel them that loads of has have come to love which is that amazing lift and speed you get when up and riding. What I do prefer about the revo is that due to the vee in the board it sits in the water better and feels a more connected to the wave as opposed to the Omni which I used to have. I initially tried it as a quad which was great for responsive more reactive surfing....but when I set it up as purely a twin....the speed and glide I got from the board was incredible. So much speed and drive and you can really push through the turns and not skip out. I have not tried it as a thruster but then I haven't ridden a thruster in years.
To summarise this board will paddle well, catch waves easily and give you a really connected feel to the wave. I feel the board is use friendly if you are already riding shortboards. Fin set ups seem to be really versatile which is always a plus. My last comment on this board however is unless you are a lightweight ripper surfing all the time do not be afraid to stay with your volume or even size up slightly. For reference I am 5ft10, 100kg plus and ride a 6ft0 Revo.

Genius of a board
I was looking for a board to use when conditions were a bit too big and messy for my fish and longboard. It was a choice between this and the Uber driver XL. After a lengthy time of deliberation, went for 5’10” Revo for the construction, fin set up and will wave pool performance. I’m happy to report, I’m delighted with my choice.

I was a little apprehensive about the alternative shape of the Revo, but the board is phenomenal. It paddles well, great wave entry, the Ibolic construction is super tough and it absolutely flies. It’s like nothing I’ve ever surfed before, puts a massive smile on your face. Only surfed as a quad set up so far, can’t wait to get it out in some cleaner conditions!

Would like to thank Matt for all the advice and his patience, as it took me an eternity to make a decision on this board.

Boardshop were spot on with their customer service and delivery was perfect!

Many Thanks.

awesome board
I have an EVO and was skeptical about the REVO - however, the positive reviews on youtube sucked me in. I got the 5'7 (same length as EVO). Took it out in 3ft onshore @ Croyde and it was great. Getting waves was as easy as it is on the EVO, but the board felt much better to surf. Seemed to have more stability in the turns, but still maintaining speed. Can't wait to take this out in some decent waves.
As per usual the folks at the boardshop provided a great service.

Excellent
Far better than the EVO. Surprisingly as good in small waves but so much better performance wise. Excellent all around board I’ve only used it in small stuff but can tell would work fine in good surf.

I was skeptical about the vee before surfing it but the feeling rolling rail to rail on it is addictive. And it paddles insanely well!

Epic Board
Ditch the Evo.. get the REVO…
This board is epic. I bought one to replace the evo, wanting something a little more sharper in bigger and hollower waves. This thing delivers.. its just like the evo.. amazing at catching waves with ease turns on a dime and handles some size.. It’s like an EVO on steroids.. Best up grade I’ve ever had from a board… If you own an Evo.. get one. If you dont own one.. get one… they are great in all waves..

Love it love it love it
The board feels smaller than the published volume under arm, Performance is next level. Tracks really well when and takes off super fast when you pump down the line . Can really lay it on a rail and throw a ton of spray thru the turns. Best first surf I’ve ever had on a board after 25 years of surfing.

The board was a pre order. Great communication from the team at boardshop. The board arrived well packaged and in perfect condition as always.
Cheers guys.
